West Texas born and raised, Kerry Freeman began singing at an early age following in the footsteps of his family’s musical legacy.

“My Dad had a rock n roll band back in the late 50’s in Odessa so I grew up hearing all these stories about Dad playing around West Texas when rock n roll was really just taking off and it really fueled my imagination.”

In addition to his father’s musical roots Kerry’s grandfather on his mom’s side was a mainstay in the prominent Austin western swing music scene as a member of Jesse James and All The Boys.

“As early as I can remember, I was exposed to the sound of my Papa playing fiddle around their house and leaving on the weekends to go play gigs. That sound is stamped into my DNA, it’s like the soundtrack of my childhood.”

Heavily influenced by the likes of the Eagles, Eric Clapton, and Vince Gill, he began performing with his siblings playing local venues and county fairs in and around the DFW area. In the early 2000’s Kerry decided to form his own band and started playing dancehalls, honky-tonks and bars all over Texas, New Mexico and Colorado. This eventually led to opportunities opening for and sharing the stage with some of the biggest names in country music. Unfortunately, in 2005 Kerry went through a divorce which took a toll on him emotionally and mentally. Out of that came the opportunity to start playing internationally. With a demand for American artists, and the exploding troubadour scene in Scandinavia, he played all over Europe, performing everywhere from Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland and Switzerland.

“The time period from 2006 to 2013, I for the most part, only played in Europe and Scandinavia. It was by far the best thing that ever happened to me as an artist. It really honed my craft as a performer and entertainer. It was non-stop, every night from the first song to the last song. High octane, full throttle.”

After a 7 week, 7 nights a week stint in Copenhagen in 2013 he finally reached the point where the non-stop performing took it’s toll.

“I remember very distinctly after the last song of the last night, putting my guitar down and knowing I was done. Toast. I didn’t want to touch a guitar or sing for a long time.”

Taking a much-needed break, Kerry focused the next few years on building his successful consulting business and building a life back in Texas with his new wife. Unfortunately, it took a tragic turn of events to re-ignite the fire and love that he had for music. One of his closest friends got diagnosed with brain cancer and out of that, he decided to put together a benefit to help raise money for the family. With the help of friends and contacts in the music business he put together a show and got to play with his old band again. After that emotional night, he realized just how much he had missed making music with and for the people he loved. In late 2021, with the help of his good friend singer/songwriter Kevin Montgomery, Kerry hit the studio in Nashville and finally began making the record that you could say has been a lifetime in the making. His new LP is a perfect blend of contemporary country, Texas Country, and Americana. American Texas Country if you will. “IT’S TEXAS” is scheduled to be released September of 2022.
