THIS album sprang from a campaign to get proper rewards for many Jamaican artists who were paid peanuts despite their music fuelling the reggae boom in the UK from the seventies onwards.
A worthy cause, then, and a tidy album by Jamaican music veterans Winston Francis and AJ Franklin. What we have are 15 slices of sunny, classic reggae with lazy Wailers-style rhythms, lush vocal harmonies and some rich brass.
If UB40 can still pack 'em in (heavens knows why) then these guys certainly deserve a hearing.
Included on the disc, touchingly, are phone messages endorsing the album from Dave Barker (of Dave and Ansil Collins fame), Dennis Alcapone and Alton Ellis.
Nice to hear, but the music's quality speaks for itself.
