Caris Hermes is nothing less than a great young hope of German jazz - just 30 years old, the multi-award-winning jazz bassist from Cologne's Folkwang University of the Arts. Supported by her mentor John Goldsby (WDR Big Band) and with the best connections in the German scene, Caris enjoys a versatile career as a performing artist and composer, currently playing 150 national and international shows per year as a sidewoman.
Her ability to transform complex musical visions of changing bandleaders makes her the preferred choice of her category in Germany. Whether sensitively singing or humming, soulfully grooving or exuberantly walking, Caris Hermes celebrates the full range of her instrument with sophistication and elegance
At the center of the nine songs on her debut album is her trio lineup with pianist Billy Test and drummer Niklas Walter, but old acquaintances and comrades-in-arms like Paul Heller (tenor sax) and Martin Sasse (piano) also make guest appearances in the studio, as do accomplished friends like Andy Haderer (trumpet) and Stefan Pfeifer-Galilea (alto sax). More than half of the songs are written by Hermes herself, who lets her luminous sound worlds shine in the unmistakable straight-ahead style full of references, ramifications and mood layers.
