Matt Edwards is a singer songwriter and multi instrumentalist from the South of England. His album ‘Four Berry Jam’ is alternative blues rock, with a mix of blues, blues rock and funk. The line-up on the album is Matt Edwards on excellent guitar and vocals, Roger Inniss on pounding bass, Andy Norris with superb rhythmic skills on drums and guest Colin Henney on Hammond. All the tracks on the album are self penned.

The opening track, ‘Behind The Wall’, is an earthy rocky blues with great guitar work, that set the scene for the rest of the album. Next, the uptempo ‘Dreaming Of A time Before’ a rocky blues with great guitar and solid rhythm section.

‘This Near’ leans towards classic rock, but is a well put together track. ‘Same Old Self’ slows the pace with an Americana feel and super vocals. Some great funky rhythms to follow on ‘All In Pieces, an excellent track, probably one of my favourites on the album. A good blues take with a rocky edge on ‘Picking At The Bone’ with some great fuzzed guitar. Funking it up again on the up tempo ‘Make A Wish’ with sounds of the 70’s, then bringing in some classic wah wah for a Hendrix style blues, ‘Don’t Need You Any More, excellent stuff!

Some more classic blues rock to follow with ‘Another Round’. Then onto a track with a great back beat with the drummer working hard, ‘Miles And Miles’, which has a leaning towards Southern rock, love it! The penultimate track on this excellent album, is a slow well put together number ‘Walk’. The finale is a solo acoustic blues take, with excellent guitar from Matt, ‘Taking Up Time’, superb!

The album has a good mix of styles, is well put together and has not been over mastered, giving the feel of a live take. The musicianship of the band is exceptional and the whole CD is a great listen, so well recommended.
