Black Pencil - Kaiseki (2017)

Originality, historical knowledge, freshness and virtuosity characterize the performances of the Black Pencil ensemble. His KAISEKI program can best be described as a "composed meal". It draws its inspiration from the Japanese culinary art form of the same name and its rich traditions: attention is paid to every detail, pauses are skilfully set, repetitions are avoided - instead, variations, symmetry, seasonal characteristics and the sound of the food itself come to the fore. The works on this CD were composed for Black Pencil by Roderik de Man, Arnoud Noordegraaf, Robert van Heumen, Vanessa Lann and Florian Magnus Maier. There will also be two arrangements of Japanese folk songs and an arrangement of Ayuo's Eurasian Tango No. 1. Ensemble Black Pencil specializes in new repertoire and daring original arrangements influenced by various folk music traditions. The main idea is the presentation of exciting new music and inspiring improvisations in a unique line-up.
