MARIO FALCAO born and educated in Lisbon, Portugal completed his basic music studies at Lisbon Conservatory. Awarded a Fulbright Grant to study at Eastman School of Music in Rochester N.Y. he finished a Masters Degree in Harp Performance after which he settled in the US. Presently he is Professor Emeritus at State University of New York at Fredonia.
A prize winner at the 5th International Harp Contest in Jerusalem has subsequently been invited to judge contests in the US, GreatBritain,France, Japan, Russia, Mexico and Portugal.
Active in Harp organizations he has held the position of Chairman of the Board of the American Harp Society, was founding member of the International World Harp Congress of which he is a member of the Board of Directors. In 2018 was awarded by the American Harp Society the Lifetime Achievement Award. As soloist played with orchestras in the US, Portugal,Spain,Czech Republic,Denmark and Japan; played recitals in London, New York City,Washington DC, Madrid,Lisbon,Paris and other European cities as well as in the US, Brasil, China, Japan. Frequently invited to conduct Master Classes and special courses as a visiting professor.
Always interested in participating in the development of harp repertoire, commissions new compositions performs new pieces and collaborates closely with composers.
