Brilliant Dub Techno artist Tim Kossmann follows up his 2020 album 'Home' with 'Into The Unknown' on Lucidflow, journeying further into to introspection through the medium of immersive textural ambient. 'Home' was release as the global pandemic took hold, and gradually descended from weighty kicks into frozen pause as it played out, 'Into The Unknown' documents the journey over the past two years from opener 'A New Time' to closer 'Social Distance'.
'Into The Unknown' is dominating and all encompassing. The nearest comparison is like standing in the sea on a crowded beach, the excited chatter of people and waves crashing around you. As you submerge your head under the surface, far from soundless tranquillity, the water becomes your entire sonic landscape - a single pulsating throb. As you become accustomed to it, you start to pick out threads of audio - the whoosh of a limb breaking the surface, ebb and flow of the waves registering as both sound and movement, a swirl of aqua around your eardrums like a perpetually draining plug.
This is what you feel as you move 'Into The Unknown', your first impression is simply 'texture and range', but as you move through the tracks, you start to become aware of threads existing in the huge sonic canvas. Sometimes it is a synth arpeggio, or the gentle walk of two fingers along a piano, and the subtle shift as long undulating textures handshake into and out of view.
One for fans of GAS and Rafael Anton Irisarri, 'Into The Unknown' marks a departure for Lucidflow - while no stranger to the chilled out side of the spectrum, the world of dense dub ambient is a journey into the unknown of their very own.
