“JUNKYARD” is a selection of 8 songs from New York singer-songwriter Warren Malone, some of which have never been recorded before and some of which are live favorites. Recorded in 1 day at Hive Mind Studios in Brooklyn, NY, the album represents a fresh approach, taking the songs into a studio with a live band and tracking to tape. The album is a clear representation of the sound: no edits and hardly any overdubs.
The sound and feel of the music draw heavily on the greatest artists of the 50’s: Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Charlie Rich to name a few. Warren Malone wrote all of the songs except for two, which are covers of traditional blues and gospel. Opting to lead the band with his voice alone, Malone handed guitar duty over to producer Kyle Lacy, who created the arrangements and is helping to release the album on Lacy Records.
The 24 minute album is a deeply felt collaboration between Lacy and Malone, with songs that make you want to dance and songs that tug on your heart strings. Warren’s voice shines through on the final lyrics of the album, which simply say “Every day has the chance to be a brand new day.”
