Originally planned for April 2020 in celebration of Beethoven's 250th birthday, this recording of Beethoven's symphonies is the third composer-led collaboration between Yannick Nézet-Séguin and the COE having previously performed and recorded together complete Schumann and Mendelssohn cycles in 2014 and 2017 respectively. This Symphony Cycle was going to use the now complete performance material featuring the musical text of the "New Beethoven Complete Edition". Especially in Symphony No. 9 one can literally hear and experience the difference, as Beethoven's original and recently re-discovered double bassoon part is used for the very first time. The recording will also be the COE's first complete Beethoven Cycle on record since the landmark recording with Nikolaus Harnoncourt in the 1990's.

HIP on Modern, new complete critical edition 2020 !

Brisk, refreshing and exciting but rather intellectual !!
Clear with little vibrato but bold Agogik :)
For some people it may be too clever but on the contrary I wish more vivid (he makes sfumato (blurred outline) as he conducts Full Orchestra) :p
COE is excellent, more compatible with him than Philadelphia Orchestra and Orchestre Métropolitain :))
Choir is Accentus :)

From booklet at 4th movement of No. 9, Contrabassoon seems played not only at Turkish March but also at other parts and different way from full score !
2nd Bassoonist plays sometimes Bassoon and sometimes Contrabassoon ?
When 2nd Bassoonist plays Contrabassoon, the ways are sometimes on full score and sometimes apart from full score (on new found part score and so on) ?
I'm not for sure, right ? tell me !

Many thanks

It's absolutely incomprehensible that you keep distributing the 16bit44 first and then, a day later, the high-res. complete nonsense!!!!!

jackBlu: It's absolutely incomprehensible your stupid mind. I don't have to download 2 gigabits on a hi res album and listen on a regular hifi system like most listeners have at home

Olga, how right you are. Just played No.1, it is blurred and not to my liking. Also too thought out, he doesn't love the music. I'll stick to Norrington and the old masters.....

Thank you Guest Davo ^.^
But I wanna know about Contrabassoon's parts or 2nd Bassoonist's parts at Symphony No. 9 4th movement in the new edition :)
They say 6 layers likening them to archeology.
