A year ago, the jury of the Public Media Award in the Music category honored Piotr Beczała. The artist - recognized in 2018 as the most outstanding tenor in the world - was appreciated primarily for his constant promotion of Polish culture on the world's most famous opera stages.

The double CD album of Piotr Beczała entitled "Arie" is a return to recordings that took place in the Concert Studio of Polish Radio. Witold Lutosławski in 2009 and 2011. Piotr Beczala was accompanied by the Polish Radio Orchestra (since 2019 the Polish Radio Orchestra in Warsaw), led by its then artistic director Łukasz Borowicz.

Bogna Kowalska, today director of the Polish Radio Music Agency, and in 2009 coordinating the work of the Polish Radio Orchestra, recalls that time as follows: Piotr Beczała, enchanted from the first session with the acoustics of the Polish Radio Concert Studio. Witold Lutosławski has recorded over a dozen opera arias (including Moniuszko, Czajkowski, Borodin, Żeleński) perfect in every respect. The performance aroused even sensational admiration.

Beczała, already living permanently in Zurich at that time due to his connections with the local Opera, reappeared in the Concert Studio of Polish Radio. Witold Lutosławski, in 2011. This time he recorded Italian arias by Giuseppe Verdi. Again with the accompaniment of the Polish Radio Orchestra under the baton of Łukasz Borowicz, with whom the artist understands and collaborates perfectly to this day.

Piotr Beczała's path to the heights of opera singing led through the stages of the Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden Theater, La Scala, San Francisco Opera and the stages of Hamburg, Berlin, Munich, Vienna, Salzburg, Geneva, Paris and other cities around the world, where he played roles requiring extraordinary musicality and outstanding skills.

Beczała says briefly about the secret of his success: If I decide to record something, I have to be able to sing the entire operatic part, not just one of its signature pieces. […] You have to choose the moment when you are ready, and if not, keep working and waiting.

After the decade that has passed since the recording of this material, and a year after being awarded the Public Media Award, we return to Slavic and Italian arias. We are very honored that among the several dozen albums released by Piotr Beczała over the last 25 years, there is a double-disc release signed by the Polish Radio Music Agency.
