Paranormal String Quartet - Spaces (2022)

The Munich string quartet "Paranormal String Quartet" was formed four years ago in Munich around the violinist and composer Gustavo Strauss and consists of Felix Key Weber on the first violin, Katie Barritt on the viola and Jakob Roters on the cello. According to the jury, it convinces "through a sophisticated band sound, surprising arrangements, jazzy grooves, innovative playing techniques and impressionistic soundscapes." Their program PARADOX consists of works written especially for the ensemble, which combine both contemporary and classical string quartet elements, but also consciously space create for experimentation and improvisation. "With unconditional dedication, diligence and mutual trust, they strive together for the highest quality and artistic realization, regardless of genre and always looking for their own vision of chamber music," said the jury. In their current work cycle "Spaces" they are developing a concert program that will not only be realized in physical but also in digital space in the future. For the jury, the quartet shows how much it acts at the pulse of time, because the pandemic times not only require a rethinking of everyday concert life, but also in interaction, inspiration and chamber music interaction and vision.
