Marta Delmont - Landlords (2018) Hi-Res

The debut of this Catalan singer-songwriter took place a couple of years ago with a magnificent work entitled "Silver Blaze", whose production was signed by a good colleague of sound adventures and identical musical affiliations such as Joana Serrat. She then surprised the intelligent way of bringing together influences with a clear American base with a natural vision of the sources and a peculiar personality reflected fundamentally through a young and fresh voice, paradoxically seasoned in environments that could be completely foreign to not too experienced ears. . She now delivers a second work anchored in the same tradition but augmented with new nuances that palpably denote effort and enrichment.

Another regular collaborator of the Serrat, Bernie Sánchez, is in charge of taking command so that everything continues in the desired place. In "Landlords" Marta Delmont, the valuable author we are talking about, enters already well-trodden roads but tries to validate the journey with excellent examples of long-distance southern rock, reminiscent of desert landscapes and the well-understood melancholy of songs like "Another Load" or "Go North", already eloquent titles. The concept is extended with the violin arrangements of "For Sale" and the dance prompted by a very lively "The Reckless". The ups and downs are the tonic, in a good way, of a clean and crystalline album, which has much more of country than alt-rock, even though there is much of it in the disturbing atmosphere of "No Prescription", where a disturbing piano engages in a dark dialogue with acoustic guitars of unsuspected depth. Perhaps here the Delmont can open a new path, at least a secondary route through which to arrive at new ports far from gentrification. A hope seconded by the rock outburst of "Ostende" and its huge hammond gallop or the dripping dreamlike pop of "Second Parts", where the keyboard game has other good things to say. A lot of crumb, as can be deduced.
