En 1778, Leopold Mozart décrit à son fils ce qui caractérise une pièce réussie : elle doit être « courte, facile et populaire. […] écrite dans un style naturel, fluide et facile – et portant en même temps les marques d’une composition de qualité. ». A l’écoute des trois Divertissements enregistrés ici, il devient évident que Mozart maîtrisait déjà cette recette six ans plus tôt. Il est tout aussi clair qu’il ne l’avait pas oubliée quand il composa Eine kleine Nachtmusik dix ans plus tard. Ce que Leopold ne mentionne pas c’est l’allégresse, une autre qualité que Mozart sait utiliser et que Terje Tønnesen et sa Camerata Nordica soulignent dans leurs interprétations. Cette espièglerie permet au nyckelharpa (violon à clés) suédois de se faire entendre dans le trio de Eine kleine Nachtmusik et donne aux timbales l’occasion d’être au premier plan dans le rondo final de la Serenata notturna.
