The conductor Rumon Gamba, who has been a key player in the Chandos Film Music series, has edited a suite in six movements from the complete score of Korngold's music for the film The Sea Hawk. Released in 1940, the film is considered by many to be the finest ever made in the genre. Certainly it was one of Errol Flynn's best films, with a lavish budget and excellent production values. Korngold's superb score is multi-layered and thematically complex, literally sweeping the film along and matching its extraordinary visuals. Gamba comments: 'I believe that hearing Korngold's score as a symphonic sweep will make for a wonderful listening experience, representative of the narrative and in keeping with the spirit of this marvellous picture.' He conducts the BBC Philharmonic on this featured Chandos disc which offers great cover artwork from Cassidy Rayne Creative.
