With the release of „Cycle 1“ of his "Concert for an Electric Guitar", Dirk Schilling is now presenting the first of three parts of a 1.5 hour concert consisting of three cycles of 6 original compositions and 3 bonus tracks. Deliberately kept simple and harmonious, reduced to the sound of a single electric guitar per cycle, recorded "live" in the room.
What sounds a bit like the "classification" of the electric guitar is much more than that: Bach-inspired music is mixed with fingerstyle, minimal music and neo-classic.
The pieces come together to form miniatures that transcend all genres. Schilling has a lot of experience with crossing genre boundaries, after all he has already released a total of 5 albums and various eps, from progressive house to singer-songwriter, mainly under his long-standing alter ego “Filmpalast”.
Now for the first time under his birth name, expressing himself instrumentally, only with his main instrument. Conceived in 2019 to deliberately never be recorded, born from the idea of creating something ephemeral that only exists in the moment for player and audience. Not to give the listener any guidelines or associations, so that the music creates the space for each individual to feel, to sense and to create the images that are triggered by their own inner world...and then the world stood still.
During the following 2 years, Schilling consistently followed the path of penetrating deeper and deeper into the layers of these 21 pieces and now, even after the successful "live" premiere at Cologne's "Luxor" in November 2021, decided to record everything "live" and release it in three parts.
