Hélder Bruno Martins was born in Coimbra, in 1976, and has always lived in Lousã.
He holds a PhD in ethnomusicology from the University of Aveiro (2020), a master's degree in musical sciences from the University of Coimbra (2005), a degree in Music Education from ESEC (1999).
He is an expert consultant for the General Directorate of Arts; researcher at INETmd and CEJ/UA. He has produced works in the fields of music, culture, economics and politics. He is the author of articles, communications, prefaces, books and CD-books, of which Jazz in Portugal (1920-1956) stands out (Almedina, 2006).
He collaborated in the research project led by neurosurgeon Carlos Calado (Hosp. São José, Lisbon) entitled The Effect of Music and the Importance of Musicality in Postoperative Pain (Calado, 2015). He has devoted special attention to the issues of music-identity-emotions.
In 2018 he released his first album of originals under the title A Presença, serene e terna. He is currently preparing the edition of the second album Under a Water Sky, which will be released in May at the Teatro Académico Gil Vicente in Coimbra. This work has the participation of: Maria João (jazz singer), Sérgio Carolino (tuba), Mafalda Camilo (vocals), Marito Marques (percussion), Ana Maria Rosa (vocals), O Gajo (viola campaniça), Carlos Martins «Rato» (voice), Ricardo Martins (voice), Maria Kagan and Tünde Hadady (violins), Rogério Monteiro (viola d'arco), Feodor Kolpashnikov (cello), Miguel Falcão (double bass).
