If Indiana is the crossroads of America, then The Hinterland Band is the crossroads of Americana.

Formed in Indiana by four multi-instrumentalists at Purdue University, The Hinterland Band stretches the boundaries of the Americana genre beyond the traditional roots foundation of folk, country, and bluegrass to include the sunny vocal harmonies of doo-wop and the gold-toned brass of soul and R&B.

Their debut album, INDIANA IN STEREO SOUND, features 10 original tracks comprising a road trip of American roots music, from stomping hoedown country and bluegrass numbers driven by fiddle and mandolin (“Indiana Wind,” “Angel’s Arms”) to trumpet-driven windows-down sunshine pop (“Cecilia”), sepia-tinged acoustic folk ballads (“Cottonwood Trees,” “Coal”) to a prog-inspired garage band soul blowout with half of its lyrics in screenplay format (“Galaxy, Virginia”).

In addition to the band, their debut album draws on the talents of legendary Indiana fiddler (12 time IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year and 2019 GRAMMY winner) Michael Cleveland (Michael Cleveland appears courtesy of Compass Records Group, Inc.), the driving pulse and creative percussion of drummer Sad Max Senteney (Reverend Peyton’s Big Damn Band), and the complex harmony expertise of engineer David Weber of Air Time Studios in Bloomington, IN.
