This album comes from the need to find a single voice that unites the composer’s
two biggest influences: flamenco and jazz.
Miquel draws inspiration from these two styles as well as representation of his own principles: respect for the Earth, for his roots and our elders as well as the beauty and harsh reality of life.
During his musical career he has met many musicians like Perico Sambeat, Albert Sanz, Sergio Martinez, Rafael Vargas, Andreu Pitarch, Javier Vercher and Juan Antonio, with whom he has shared and learned for years. He had them in mind all through this project, their personality and sounds.
“I would like to thank my parents, Victoria and Jose Miguel, for teaching me to fight for the things I love. My family and my town too, for their unconditional support. —Nobody knows where they are going unless they know where they are coming from. Thank you, too, for listening to this album.”
Miquel Álvarez Group:
Miquel Álvarez (bass), Perico Sambeat (alto & soprano sax), Albert Sanz (piano), Andreu Pitarch (drums), Sergio Martínez (cajón & percusion), Juan Antonio Jiménez (palmas & jaleos).
Guests: Rafael Vargas “el Chino” (vocals, palmas on #2,5,7 & 8),
Javier Vercher (tenor sax on #7 & 9).
