Matthias Bamert - Korngold: Military March, Cello Concerto & Serenade for String Orchestra (2022) [Hi-Res]

This disc has four works including the Cello Concerto which expands on a short piece Korngold wrote for the film Deception in 1946. The Piano Concerto in C sharp for the left hand is an altogether different matter and like Ravel’s concerto is an imaginative and resourceful work. The disc is completed with an early Military March and the mature Symphonic Serenade for String Orchestra. The music is performed by the BBC Philharmonic conducted by Matthias Bamert with the cellist Peter Dixon and the pianist Howard Shelley. The Penguin Guide said of this recording, ‘First rate playing and opulent, well balanced recording, well worth exploring’.
