Hurakan are storming back into the deathcore scene with their 3rd album, Via Aeterna, and it definitely packs a punch. The band recently made a transition from brutal slam to a more melodic deathcore sound, and it has done wonders for them, displaying what is possibly their best work to date, and they don’t look like they’re stopping anytime soon. The creativeness the band have put into these 9 tracks have created a brutal masterpiece that any heavy music fan would love, as well as attract new fans with the new, toned-down approach.

The guitar work from Maxine Maréchal, accompanied by bassist Raphaël Darras, is nice and tidy, packing some brilliant riffs and breakdowns for vocalist Danny Louzon to unleash his full vocal range on. But the shining element on this album is Thomas Crémier; the sheer ferocity of his drumming is enough to make anybody break their neck from head-banging, as well as creating the sound design, recording, re-amping, mixing and mastering the album at his studio, SoundBlast Studios. Via Aeterna also brings in Kyle Anderson (Brand Of Sacrifice) and Filip Danielsson (Humanity’s Last Breath, In Reverence) for some vocal duties, which only adds to the onslaught this album dishes out. The title track of the record also features Raphaël Verguin (Psygnosis, Spectrale, Rïcïnn), lending her skill on cello for an instrumental track that devastates as much as the rest of the album.

The band also made this statement about the upcoming record:

“Via Aeterna starts a new era for Hurakan, and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with all of you after two years of intensive work. We have pushed our boundaries in composition and performance, resulting in a more cohesive, organic and mature music taking the listener through different atmospheres and emotions on a blistering journey. We feel this is our biggest and most successful effort to date, Via Aeterna reflects Hurakan’s new state of mind, inspired by the mental problems that everyone can unfortunately endure in their lives, but also about existential issues such as death, the aftermath and the anguish it can bring.”

It’s safe to say that these boys have made a real breakthrough with this record, and I can easily see this being the drive that pushes them to new heights. The album comes out on the 15th April on all major platforms, as well as physical copies and vinyl’s available from their Bandcamp or through big cartel.

If you are a fan of heavy music and the new era of deathcore, this is a band to watch and definitely an album to check out.
