Czech composer, Antonin Dvorak (1841-1904), wrote his American String Quartet in 1893, during a visit to the USA. The quartet is influenced by American folk music as indeed, much of Dvorak's own output often employed the beloved folk tunes of his own homeland. The Piano Quintet, written in 1887 and premiered in 1888 in Prague, is likewise considered to be a masterpiece of the form. Born in Zurich in 1992, award-winning pianist, Teo Gheorghiu, was a pupil from 2001 at the Purcell School, London. He also studied at the Curtis Institute in Philadelphia with Gary Graffman and this year commences further studies at the Royal Academy of Music, London.The Carmina Quartet has been touring the world's concert stages for 25 years and continues to enjoy international acclaim, based on the ever-growing strength and authenticity of its musical language as well as the diversity of its repertoire. Intensity of expression, effortless perfection, and stylistic integrity remain the hallmarks of the group, founded in in 1984 Switzerland.
