Parelvet - Si Bung Parelpet (2022)

Si Bung Parelpet is the Indian alter ego of Ron Smith aka Parelvet. Ron, born in 1955 in Telukbetung Indonesia, came to the Netherlands in 1958 with his parents, brother and sister. He belongs to the second generation of Indos.

Throughout his musician life, Parelvet wrote and sang in English, until the Indian egg had to be laid. He did this during the first corona lockdown, resulting in an unpublished family chronicle and in its wake, a large number of Indonesian songs in Dutch, interspersed with Malay here and there.

The songs can be heard in the podcast 'Mama, Waaron We Indo's' by niece Stephanie Teekens and on the album Si Bung Parelpet.

The album Si Bung Parelpet was recorded at home with minimal resources. Result, an intimate, very personal album with the central theme - how could it be otherwise - 'Indo identity'.
