Brass United is an ensemble of five prominent brass players from different geographical and cultural backgrounds: Alexandre Baty and Wim Van Hasselt (trumpet), Jasper de Waal (french horn), Jörgen van Rijen (trombone) and Stephane Labeyrie (tuba).
Their close friendship over the years has been nurtured by the fun of making music together and the desire to promote their beautiful instruments and bring a large audience to the very best in music for brass.
Having begun as a brass quintet, and with the same five musicians at the heart of all projects, today Brass United appears in various shapes and sizes as required by the repertoire. Each and every performance unites great musicians, great music and great audiences in their love for chamber music.
'Pitch Black' is Brass United’s first CD, and it presents a wide variety of new pieces and arrangements for brass quintet, accompanied by percussion, organ, harpsichord and ghetto blaster, and all related in some way to dance and folk music.
