Krunoslav Levacic - Sunrise Sundown (2022)

In nature, as in life, everything is born, awakens, dissipates and disappears, like a sound that disappears in silence, or light when it gives context to everything it illuminates. All this happens in counterpoint (darkness and light, silence and sound), and in between are colors, life. The trio Matej Deronjić (piano), Žiga Golob (double bass) and Krunoslav Levačić (drums) consider the ambience of the acoustic piano trio a special pleasure and challenge in performing joint improvisations. The interaction and rhythmic-harmonic play between the members of the trio opens up a multitude of new sound dimensions filled with emotions. The character of improvisation is ambient, spiritual and emotional in nature, stemming from the sensibilities of the three musicians. The value of music lies in a variety of experiences, and the emphasis on expressiveness and the ability to convey emotions was an important element in the creation of this album.

Matej Deronjić is a Croatian pianist with a degree from the Music Academy in Zagreb, Department of Music Pedagogy. He received his primary and secondary music education at the Vatroslav Lisinski Music School in Zagreb, and discovered his love for jazz music in 2002 in Grožnjan, at a summer music workshop led by the great Boško Petrović and Emil Spanya. Over the years, he has recorded collaborations with many renowned Croatian jazz musicians such as Saša Nestorović, Davor Križić, Žiga Golob, Krunoslav Levačić, Matija Dedić, Nena Grahovac and Zagreb Jazz Portrait. Žiga Golob is an eminent Slovenian double bass player with over a hundred recorded recordings for various performers and rich experience of performing throughout Europe, while Kruno Levačić is one of the most prominent Croatian jazz drummers and composers, an excellent pedagogue, versatile musician and frequent guest of the international jazz scene.
