This highly representative compilation presents a range of prominent Afro-Peruvian performers including Nicomedes Santa Cruz (1925-1992, singer, author, actor, essayist); Abelardo Vásquez (1929-2001, elder brother of Pepe Vásquez; their father Porfirio, 1902-1971, was the first activist in revival of Black Peruvian music); Carlos “Caitro” Soto de la Colina (1934-2004, “patriarch” of Peruvian cajón); Lucila Campos (born 1938, the most world-renowned black female singer from Peru until The Advent of Susana Baca) etc. Six songs (out of 16) were performed by Conjunto Perú Negro, the team that combined almost all stars of the scene in their time.
