Rita Lee e Roberto de Carvalho - Perto do Fogo (1990)

This is the CD reissue of the LP released in 1982. All songs by Rita Lee and her husband, Roberto de Carvalho, recorded with the commercial (competent, but a bit kitsch) band Roupa Nova and César Camargo Mariano. Rita here is in full dance music phase, after the memorable rock times of Tutti-Frutti. The two songs which became hits were "Flagra," a teenage song about a kiss in the cinema, and "Cor de Rosa Choque," where she exercises her feminist vein. "Frou-Frou" has the structure, harmony, melody, and theme of an old marchinha de carnaval, but had a "modernizing" dance music drumming. "Vote em Mim" makes fun with elections and politicians. "Só de Você" is a romantic swing tune. The major appeal of the album resides in João Gilberto, featured in "Brasil com S," where he accompanies himself at the violão with discrete strings behind. A soft dance music album with some ballads interspersed.
