Dinah Shore - The Ultimate Dinah Shore (2001)

Long after Dinah Shore ruled the Hit Parade in the '40s, and at the tail end of even her long-running variety show, she recorded a series of LPs for Capitol during the late '50s and early '60s. It wasn't a bright period for her career (she moved to Reprise soon after) and became the repository for latter-day, re-recorded versions of earlier hits like "I'll Walk Alone," "Buttons and Bows," and "Blues in the Night." No perspective on Shore's career is offered inside, and though the versions aren't embarrassing -- Shore's in fine voice, and the arrangements are solid -- there's little here to recommend to listeners. ~ John Bush
