The 16-year-old Dzsindzsa band was named after the word “dzsindzsa” which means a bushy, swampy place. In our music, we display genuine rawness inspired by the black music of the 60s, jazz, to which other musical elements have been added over the years: e.g. folk music, raw funk elements.
Fulfilling our long-standing dream of adding the sound of the clarinet, an extremely versatile yet undeservedly neglected instrument in jazz circles, to our trio line-up (saxophone, bass, drums), we pursued an opportunity to make a record with Polish avantgarde clarinetist, Mateusz Rybicki.
The result of this collaboration is the record named “No shube doobie please!”. This eloquent title symbolizes the work process as well as the musical material itself, the lack of equivocation, referring to the sound, the liveliness of the encounter.
We were curious to see how our music worked with the guest musician, what the sound was going to be like. We let each other unfold, preserving the unique raggedness that forms naturally during these encounters. We did not polish, we did not refine afterwards, we thrived in the truth and authenticity of our sound.
