In this beautifully presented 3CD package, Gray performs some of the greatest works of Johann Sebastian Bach: a testament both to his genius as a composer, and to the creativity and virtuosic ability of the many musical minds such as Grainger, Vaughan Williams and Saint-Saëns who have been inspired to respond to his work throughout the centuries.
The transcriptions range from the painstakingly note-perfect, to the creatively liberal, and include several written specifically for this project. Gray undertakes the task with his trademark intelligence, energy and passion. For any true fan of the enchanting beauty of Bach’s music and of the piano itself, this superb collection should not be missed.
Antony Gray is an Australian pianist living in London. He has recorded Bach, Williamson, Carmichael, Brahms, Poulenc and Goossens for ABC Classics, and in 2011 gave the world premiere of Carmichael’s Second Piano Concerto.
