The project "Clarinet trip" comes from the desire to pay tribute to five of the greatest clarinetists of the past, Benny Goodman, Artie Shaw, Woody Herman, Pee Wee Russell, Barney Bigard.
The quartet is led not by chance that a clarinet alongside the classic tone of this instrument to sound cutting-edge, using rhythmic pulsations near the Rock-Funk and passing through the Free.
Engraving are five songs belonging to the repertoire of these great clarinetists arranged in a contemporary, five compositions Mauro Negri has devoted them, plus a final part consists of texts written and narrated by actor Mark Zoccarato, anecdotes and chronicles the five clarinetists.
The song "To Barney", written by Mauro Negri, takes advantage of the hot and scratchy voice of the singer Piero Cotto. "Clarinet Trip", the third album of the group, has as its objective the re-evaluation of the clarinet, an instrument in modern jazz sound hard to find an identity and a real musical arrangement.
The choice of songs reveals the personality composition of these five characters who best represented this tool in the history of jazz.
