Airplay - Airplay [Remastered Limited Edition] (1980/2018)

Airplay was a short-lived American band, formed by David Foster and Jay Graydon. The band released a self-titled album in 1980, containing “Nothin’ You Can Do About It” (later recorded by Manhattan Transfer) and a cover of the Earth, Wind & Fire hit “After the Love Has Gone”, written by Foster and Graydon with Bill Champlin.

A gem concocted by the genius of Jay Graydon, David Foster and the incredible Tommy Funderburk, featured as backing session musicians almost the entire Toto; Jeff Porcaro, Steve Lukather, David Hungate, Steve Porcaro among other beasts like Mike Baird on drums or Bill Champlin doing backing vocals.

It should come as no surprise then that “Airplay” sounds very Toto-esque indeed. Foster and Graydon produced and arranged the album, and it leans toward the hard rock end of things, with a really slick, arena-rock sound. It’s frequently over-the-top, with sudden blasts of dynamics, and exaggerated horn parts and vocals. AIRPLAY is without question a classic!!!
