The Danish composer John Frandsen (b. 1956) is a sublime musical interpreter of texts. This album presents a collection of his most evocative solo song cycles with a highly varied range of poems in delicate musical settings. Common to all five cycles is the composer’s sincere and open approach to the textual expression; from the truly intimate and even erotic to the philosophical and the absurdly silly.
This album presents four of Scandinavia’s most promising young opera singers, including the prize-winning Norwegian soprano Lise Davidsen and the composer’s son, countertenor Morten Grove Frandsen.
