Das - Rope Of Sand (2022)

Number 20 in our full length series is another milestone we are really proud of. Thank you for the support and it's really great to see the CD format flourish in its comeback.
This latest full album is by Russian artist DAS who has previously released a handful of albums on Mr.Cloudy's Space of Variants label. Andrey Korotkov (DAS, Melodic Mode) is also a mastering engineer for that label so sound design is certainly not only a hobby but his job. 'Rope Of Sand' offers 10 robust and cinematic tracks spread across 2 lengthy CD's.

'Part 1' evolves out of a field recording style which is an ideal soundtrack for these cold winter months. Reminiscent of Gas and perhaps some early Chain Reaction Monolake, the melodies breath out of a distant, almost orchestral sound. 'Part 2' features a chamber music like quality where the echo and reverbs are so delayed that they sound in reverse. We are gathering that these are very much inspired by the landscapes of stark and cold places in Russia because it certainly takes us there! The story continues on 'Part 3' and 'Part 4' as sounds clear up in the audio spectrum and a cityscape comes into focus. 'Part 5' ends the first disc on an emotional high! This breathtaking mostly ambient feeling is nothing short of beautiful. 'The 2nd disc is a fitting partner to the 1st. Almost like a second chapter in reading a book, this release tells a story to the listener. 'Part 6' and 'Part 7' are Bvdub at his best just to compare. Amazing combination's of somber and hopeful tones. 'Part 9' opens up even further, reminiscent of early 1990s chill out music as it unfolds out of the distance while 'Part 10' is one of the most peaceful on the double disk.

If you need a rainy day listen, do not look elsewhere as Das has exactly what you are needing in your life. Over 2 and a half hours of excellent ambient dub techno for you to bathe in. Perhaps, the heaviest listen we have ever released but possibly the most rewarding.
