A monsoon (/mɒnˈsuːn/) is a seasonal change in the direction of the prevailing, or strongest, winds of a region. Monsoons cause wet and dry seasons throughout much of the tropics. Monsoons are most often associated with the Indian Ocean and they always blow from cold to warm regions.
"Monsoon Winds" is Mex Cortez's debut album. In it, he gently holds our hands and takes us back to his Sri Lankan roots, but also beats on his chest to remind us how much of an impact he has made in the East African music scene, as a Tanzanian Hip Hop artist. Monsoon Winds tells us the story of how Mex had to break out of his cocoon in an environment where he was already battling the pressures of culture, race, education, music and family. Mex’s ability to rap in Kiswahili, English and Sinhala has made him one of Tanzania’s great wonders and an African gem.
Monsoon Winds is a representation of Mex finding his way from South Asia to East Africa. He is on a wave and we cannot wait to see where the winds take him.
