The year 2011 celebrates the anniversary of the birth of the great Italian film composer Nino Rota. This new disc presents some of his rarely heard concert works for flute and piano, including the Five Simple Pieces, the Elegia, Allegro Veloce, the Flute Sonata (an authorised transcription of the Sonata for Violin and Piano), Three Pieces, and the Fantasia on Film Themes. They are performed by Rota’s great friend, the flautist Roberto Fabbriciani and the pianist Massimilio Damerini.

Although he is known mostly for the 154 film soundtracks that he wrote between 1933 and 1979, the Italian composer Nino Rota left behind a significant amount of fascinating and eclectic music for a wide range of instruments and ensembles. This album features music that he composed for flute and piano several of which are receiving their first recordings.

It covers a long period of his career from the Flute Sonata, transcribed from the violin sonata of 1937, up to to the two collections of delightful miniatures written at the beginning of the 70s, and ending with a Fantasia that brings together famous tunes taken from his most important and well known soundtracks.
