«I think everyone not entirely indifferent to Liszt as a person and his oeuvre is deeply moved when entering the house of birth of Franz Liszt in Raiding. When I performed here for the first time in 2010, I felt as being carried away on wings from the first note to the very last one. And this feeling is present every time I enter the stage of the concert hall in Raiding.» This new edition of live recordings of Liszt recitals by Boris Bloch, being released in prospect of the 10th season of the Liszt Festival Raiding, contains the complete set of Annees de Pelerinage I-III, the Harmonies poetiques et religieuses, paraphrases on opera themes by Handel and Wagner as well as polonaises, concerto etudes and other piano pieces on six CDs. Incomparable sensations with unmatchable authenticity by one of the greatest Liszt interpreters of our time.
Born in Odessa, the pianist and conductor Boris Bloch has long been regarded as one of the most important interpreters of classical and romantic piano music. After studying at Moscow's Tchaikovsky Conservatory under the world-renowned pianist and pedagogue Dmitri Bashkirov he soon built up a large and ever expanding repertoire extending from Scarlatti and Bach, the Viennese Classicists, Chopin and Liszt and covering the German and Russian Romantics to the most important composers of the 20th century. Bloch's detailed knowledge of the piano literature of the last three centuries, his familiarity with the entire history of music and its protagonists along with his stupendous pianism and above all things his strong artistic personality form the basis for the much vaunted depth of expression, the abundance of colour, the amazing stylistic originality and the incomparable «singing tone» of his playing, manifesting themselves equally in the careful composition of his recitals.
