New York-based rock band originally formed by Andy Herod and Nicole Gehweiler in 1998 in Chapel Hill, NC.
The Comas are back with Conductor, their second Yep Roc release. Finding himself at the end of a two-year relationship, Comas frontman Andy Herod found refuge in an empty beach house on the North Carolina coast during the winter of 2003. Keeping him company was an acoustic guitar, a 4-track recorder, a small city of wine bottles and the overwhelming reality of lost love and identity. As those lonely winter days passed into spring, Herod realized that he had an album in the works. Recorded with Alan Weatherhead (who also contributed pedal steel guitar) at the Sound of Music studios in Richmond, VA, Herod was joined by Nicole Gehweiler (guitars/vocals/piano), Cameron Weeks (drums/percussion) and Justin Williams (bass). The end result is 11 fuzzed-out pop/rock songs that are a monument to the suicide of love against a wintry sci-fi back drop of dark towers, moonlit skies and a cast of lost characters ... or perhaps it is just a break-up record. What is definite is that Conductor is here, and it's massive.
