Janez Gregorič - Cronomías de Montevideo: Hommage à Abel Carlevaro (2016)

Uruguayan guitarist, educator and composer Abel Carlevaro is considered one of the great guitar personalities of the 20th century. He invented his own playing technique and an instrument constructed after his measures (model Carlevaro), featuring among others a varied geometry and a repositioned sound hole. Janez Gregoric who – being his student and later assistant – can be attributed extra authority with the implementation of Carlevaro’s style of playing is devoting this double CD Cronomias de Montevideo to his great master on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of his birth in 1916. This album presents works like Preludios americanos, Cronomias, Veinte Microestudios and the Milonga Suite No.1. Besides Carlevaro, Gregoric also introduces own compositions like the cycle Montevideo revisited, forming around impressions of his intense studies of Carlevaro's oeuvre and his own study periods in Montevideo.
