VA - Deep Note: Music of 1970's Adult Cinema (2002)

If you've ever wondered what '70s porn movies sounded like, this would be a prime example, containing highly obscure, warbled funk instrumentals by anonymous musicians laced with all the typical sexy trimmings of muted flutes, salty organs, wah-wah guitars, and plenty of heavy moaning. This is best represented by Orgasmatron 75's "Boob Tube," which epitomizes the sexy porno sound of a decadent decade -- a slow, watery funk groove crackles with dusty organs and seedy horns, culminating in a detective-like theme finale. Further conjuring a grainy time-period haze, "Love Dance," "My Cousin Hanne," "Psychedelic Orgy," and "On the Prowl" also display satisfying variations of the suggestive genre. What's unfortunate, though, is that the majority of these selections are merely short snippets of explicit disjointed dialogue that would be routinely fast-forwarded on videotape and instead fill in for where music could be. Nostalgia-seekers may find Deep Note: Music of 1970's Adult Cinema interesting, but casual listeners will discover that it's never as good the second time around and perhaps best left for those who lived it.
