What induced the young Romanian pianist Raluca Stirbat to give her latest recording the sonorous title of GO-BETWEEN - between Dance and Dream can be understood after a few bars of her performance. As on her first CD released by Gramola, she focusses on composers from her Romanian home. You can hear the Pièces Impromptues op. 18 by George Enescu and the Joujoux pour Ma Dame, Cinq Pièces op. 7 by Mihail Jora as well as the Romanian Folkdances op. 6 by Béla Bartók. On the other hand - both geographically and stylistically - this programme includes works by two representatives of French Impressionism: Prélude, Choral et Fugue by César Franck and the Images 2e série by Claude Debussy.
Born in the university city of Ia?i in the north-east of Romania, the pianist already received piano lessons at the music grammar school in her home town at the age of six and held her debut as a concert pianist with Joseph Haydn's Piano Concerto in D major at the age of ten. From this moment on, Raluca Stirbat was considered a child prodigy and appeared with all the major orchestras in Romania (including the 'George Enescu' Philharmonic and the Radio Symphony Orchestra) and abroad. After studying for a year at the 'George Enescu' Music Academy in Ia?i, she went to Vienna Music University in 1994 to study with Prof. Jürg von Vintschger, where she completed her M.A. in performance piano.
Her international fame is not least underlined by many recordings, including for Swiss Radio DRS, Hungaroton Studio in Budapest or the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation.
