Richard Wagner's Parsifal as an arrangement for piano four-hands. This venture, which is courageous due to the complexity of the score and the sheer length of the work, was undertaken by Wagner's assistant in Bayreuth and close companion, Engelbert Humperdinck. These 12 compositions from Parsifal, which are dedicated to the Wagner family, are now being released for the first time on CD to mark the 200th anniversary of Wagner's birth. In their interpretation, Ana-Marija Markovina and Cord Garben bring to life the most important scenes from Wagner's last music dramatic work, illustrating in captivating manner the nature and the magic of the places and persons.
Ana-Marija Markovina received her training from well-known teachers such as Vitaly Margulis, Anatol Ugorski, Rolf-Dieter Arens and Paul Badura-Skoda, who stated she was 'one of the most important artists of her generation'. Her concerts with many international orchestras and as a soloist have taken her to the major cultural centres in Europe, Asia and the United States of America.
Many radio and CD recordings, including world first recordings of works by Hugo Wolf, Anton Urspruch, Luisa Adolpha le Beau und C.P.E. Bach, testify to her high artistic level and her unmistakable signature.
After studying at the State Academy of Music in Hanover (music education, piano and conducting), the Bad Homburg-born Cord Garben specialized in song accompaniment and has achieved successes with singers such as Edith Mathis, Brigitte Fassbaender, Anne-Sophie von Otter, Peter Schreier or Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau. After conducting renowned orchestras and work as a producer at international opera houses, he obtained great recognition as a long-standing record producer for Deutsche Grammophon and can look back on seven Grammy Awards. More than 150 of his own recordings testify to Garben's multi-faceted commitment.
