After two decades making and releasing music, I’ve had the chance to work extensively as a touring DJ, A&R, music producer, music teacher, sound engineer and coffee maker for many different labels and projects. Despite that, I’ve only released one album before this (“Ascensus” on 4Lux, Rotterdam, back in 2013), it did fairly well... Overcoming the fears of continuity, I've created “Ave de Rapina” during the outbreak of COVID-19 - after submitting myself to social isolation.
The music I chose for it is highly personal and I hope it reflects the originality I’ve aimed to develop with my music over the years as it mirrors the influence of the great artists that inspired me... sometimes this was accomplished with greater success and visibility than others but always with immense dedication.
It gathers fresh studio mixes and versions of tracks previously only released on vinyl through respected labels like Finale Sessions (Orlando), Midnight Shift (Singapore/Berlin) Escapade (Paris), Hands Off (Odense) or Con+ainer (Porto) to name a few… adding a few experiments that were either unreleased or only found in rare CD compilations. Many of these tracks are available digitally for the first time, or have been developed during his confinement to sound as close to the original vision I had for them, as my current skill set allows.
There’s much in “Ave De Rapina” that relates to jazz-funk, but also hip hop, cinematic scores, dub and ambient music, often welded with rough beats and tight grooves that - though often slower in pace or cooler in attitude - borrow much from house, techno and electro from Chicago, Detroit and London. It is meant for the rare and beautiful beings that soar high, with a keen ear for detail and relevance, like birds of prey.
