The band Sweet, (or The Sweet) was formed in 1966, one of the most significant bands of “glam rock”. All members of the ensemble sing, which defines the sound world and vocals of Sweet.
Initially, they performed songs by Nick Chinn - Mick Chapman, who also wrote significant songs for other bands and soloists of the age (e.g. Smokie, Suzi Quatro, Mud). Most famous early songs: Co-Co, Funny funny, Poppa Joe, Ballroom Blitz, Blockbuster and more. In 1974, perhaps their most successful album, Sweet Funny Adams, was released. The album already has its own compositions, the Chinn – Chapman duo only records two songs. This is followed in 1975 by Desolation Boulevard, with one of the defining compositions of the era, Fox on the Run. In 1978, there was another big bang, Love is like oxygen song, which has also been on the charts for a long time. Due to alcohol and other problems, they soon got rid of singer Brian Connolly and the three members continued. Without Connolly’s defining vocals, however, there was less success, and that’s how the band’s “classic” era came to an end. Singer Brian Connolly died in February 1997 (heart attack) and drummer Mick Tucker died in February 2002 (leukemia). Guitarist Andy Scott continues the band’s history, touring with his band today under the name Andy Scott’s Sweet, and playing songs that have now become classics in the 1970s.
