La Fontegara México is a period chamber ensemble that uses modern copies of instruments from the Renaissance and the Baroque, and observes historically informed performance practices. The group was formed in 1988, and it has performed repertoire from the 16th to the 18th centuries on its tours of Mexico, the United States, Canada, Guatemala, Colombia, Costa Rica, the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Venezuela, Uruguay, Spain, and Germany. La Fontegara México has collaborated with Josep Cabré, Lydia Knutson, Richard Luby, Robert Mealy, Emilio Moreno, Guido Morini, Irasema Terrazas, Gabriela Thierry, Vincent Touzet, and Manfredo Kraemer, as well as working with the Musicians of the Old Post Road. Members include Maria Diez-Canedo on recorder and transverse flute, Rafael Sánchez Guevara on viola da gamba and Baroque cello, Eunice Padilla on harpsichord and fortepiano, and Eloy Cruz on theorbo and Baroque and Romantic guitars. All the members teach graduate level courses at the National School of Music of the National Autonomous University of Mexico, and the ensemble has recorded for Meridian Records and Urtext. ~ Blair Sanderson
