Funk DJ & collector Keb Darge chooses some of his favourite tracks from the P&P archives - 30 killer rarities of deep funk, Philly and disco funk! Most of these tracks have never appeared on CD before!

This man is an animal, regularly dredging up rarely-seen records of mythical or three-figure status. His latest trophy exhibition spotlights the P&P labels group started by legendary producers Patrick Adams and Peter Brown in 1976 after they’d hit big with the seminal Atmosphere Strut as Cloud One. For 12 years P&P siphoned pure funk, soul and disco up from the streets releasing singles, which this decade has seen soar into Northern soul price echelons. Suss’d, having already liberated much of the legendary Salsoul catalogue, started its P&P reissue programme last year with selections from DJs Danny Krivitt then Kenny Dope. Darge rises to the occasion with over 20 tracks never having appeared on CD before, producing a murderously great set.

Disc One conjures ultra-rare funk from the late 60s/early 70s, sometimes both sides of a 7”, from names including Henry Brooks, Sons Of Darkness, Ella Hamilton, Soul Severes and the Sentimental Souls. Disc Two takes it to the disco between 1974-80, including alternative versions of 500-pressing tracks from the likes of Dream Lovers, Tony Aiken & Futura 2000, Eddy Cheba and the drugged-up holler of Little Scotty’s Going To A Disco Tonight. The common factor is the relentless raw energy coursing through this magnificent venture.
