Chris Stalcup & the Grange - Dixie Electric Company (2014)

Reaching beyond the Alt-Country success of Chase Fifty Six’s 2010 “Allatoona Rising” Stalcup has embarked on a new project wielding the power of Atlanta’s All Star line-up of Bret Hartley ~ guitar (Sugarland, Sonia Leigh) Paul Barrie ~ drums (Cigar Store Indians, Donkey) Jon Daly ~ guitar, pedal steel, banjo (Michelle Malone, Jackson County Line) and Jim Vollrath ~ bass (Chase56, Mayhem Hero).

“… I set out to make a record that was reflective of where I am at now in life, which is quite different than a few years ago when we (Chase Fifty Six) made Allatoona Rising. Alot has gone on in my own life as well as others close to me and I felt the best way to understand it all was to absorb and embrace it and let it have its impact on me and find its way out as a story. I soon found out, I had lots of stories that needed to be told so I set out to bring them to life in a new way with some new guys who would bring their own perspectives to the story as well.”

The title track, Dixie Electric Company, came to me one day through an experience that took a hold of my soul and seemed to tell me to write that experience down. The entire song happened in a matter of minutes as I sat and hurriedly tried to capture the words as they were flowing through me. As are all the songs on this album, this song is as real as it gets for me as a songwriter. Now that this record is done, I hope to return to the gentleman that I encountered who sparked this song and thus this album and hand him a copy. I am as nervous about this future moment as I am performing some of these songs live, nervous and weird, hesitant wondering how these intimate stories will be received by those who may or may not have lived through something similar. At the end of the day, we are all human and thus affected. I only hope that these songs help others find the strength they need to triumph over any personal battles they may be struggling with.
