This Eddie Boyd compilation is devoted exclusively to the recordings he made after he left Chess in 1956 and includes tracks recorded for J.O.B, Oriole, Bea & Baby, Keyhole, Mojo, LaSalle, Art-Tone, Push, Palos and an EP, specifically recorded for the English market and issued on the Esquire label. Boyd redoes a few of his Chess recordings but most of the tracks are new originals showing his typical wit and intelligence. Most of the sides were recorded in Chicago with small groups which includes superb guitar work from Eddie King, Robert Jr Lockwood and Eugene Pierson. There is also one session cut in Memphis with Sammy Lawhorn on guitar. Four sides were recorded in Oakland, California - two featuring guitarist Lafayette Thomas. A superb set with excellent sound and discographical data.
