Jay Munly (also known as munly and Munly Jay Munly) is an American musician and songwriter, a prominent representative - along with David Eugene Edwards (16 Horsepower, Wovenhand) - the so-called. "Denver sound", or Gothic Americana, combining elements of traditional country and folk music with dark, disturbing motives and lyrics. Member of Slim Cessna's Auto Club and Denver Broncos UK, recording with his own ensembles Munly and the Lee Lewis Harlots and Munly and the Lupercalians and under his own name. In 2006, Munly and the Lee Lewis Harlots were named the best group in Colorado in a poll among music critics by The Denver Post. He is currently working with his band Munly and the Lupercalians on a series of albums about the fictional city of Lupercalia and its inhabitants. The first album in the series, Petr & The Wulf, was based on Sergei Prokofiev's "Petit and the Wolf" and was released in 2010 via Alternative Tentacles.
