Following the release of ‘Pass Deg For Trancen’, comes Angermund’s most complete work to date. The artist’s debut album ‘Prinsen av Ulriken’ - arrives on Mhost Likely Slate label series and demonstrates Angermund’s killer ear for capturing the cross-sections that exist within Norwegian electronica, floating between the artist’s synth-pop upbringing and introspective, world-building electronica.
Themed around live-recorded events in the artist's life, ‘Prinsen av Ulriken’ is a deeply spiritual connection to nature. Designed to have inward-gazing and melodic tracks side to side - to represent the grand emotions that only nature can bring - the album is a tripped-out voyage through flora-drenched ecosystems of high mountains and deep forests.
The album opens with ‘Anima’ which is an anthem to nature. Live recordings of birds, organic sounds and playful airy melodies (Penguin Cafe Orchestra-esque) symbolising the contemplative curiosity that comes when one is alone in nature, shutting out the outside world. Zen-inducing trance.
‘Ella’min’ is a stunning track that captures life itself. The track was recorded during the pregnancy of Angermund’s first child. Live recordings from an ultrasound waves back and forth over recorded bird noises, gentle spoken words and mellow soundscapes. Baby realness. ‘Mens natten danser’ is inviting you outside for a dance while the stars are at their brightest to celebrate the beginning of life.
‘Råtapeis’ is a beautifully electronic chugger with cascading synths that are introspective and vulnerable. Deep inside your own mental forest vibes. ‘Bak byen’ continues the mental, inside yourself, aesthetics that has been built throughout the album, and mirrors the sound from the vast plateau behind the city of Bergen. Fear, love and sadness all at once.
‘Til månen med Bybanen’ is a conceptual track that goes down the cinematic rail. Live recordings from Bergen’s light cityrail are mixed with organic analogue synthesisers to induce paradise, but with a looming presence of uncertainty subtly takes form in echoed out textures.
‘I skogen bak Ulriken’ and ‘Vassdalvatnet Camping’ round out the album in a positive and melodious way that has become so synonymous with the Angermund name.
