SPIRIT CALLER
5th November, 2028. A 24-year old man in a crowded city neuralinks himself to the meshed conscience, ready for full upload. A "full upload", of course, requires destroying the previous mind; the physical brain, and all of it's thoughts, obliterated in the process of being uploaded to the mesh.
It's the only way he knows how reach people now. Friends, family, even loved ones of the past, somehow brought back on the dead and fully communicable with, through this mesh. The cities seemed emptier than they ever had been - patrol drones being more common than people these days. This fog had come and never left; government-mandated gas masks the only way to even leave your home. Even if there was a world out there to go to, it was pointless, because nobody was there.
And so, he called his conscience backup "Spirit Caller", in a plea to the world he was leaving, and the new one he was sacrificing himself to be in.
"Is anyone out there...?"
